Lara Dutta wants to take a break from comedy
MUMBAI: Actress Lara Dutta who has lately been doing various comic movies such as Bhagam Bhaag, No Entry, Partner and Do Knot Disturb, will soon be seen in yet another comedy flick Housefull. Even though she is looking forward to it, the actress now wants to take a break from comedy films.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Dutta says, "Most of the films I am offered lately are comedy films, I like doing comedy, it's something that works everybody wants to go to the theater have a great time and come back, nobody wants to watch social dramas otherwise those are the films that would have been made. But the last couple of years, we've seen there are either feel good films, comedy films or romantic films and a few action films made. Last year I did Billu, then I did an action film Blue and Do Knot Disturb, which was a comedy. You have to pick and find your balance somewhere therefore for now I would like to take a break from comedy and look for something else."
Her last film Blue was a big disappointment. However, Dutta is optimistic and says, "Every film does not go the way it is expected even though every film is made with the intention of going as expected but that doesn't happen. To make a film on that scale and to take a chance to try something new is the only way to break new grounds. It is the only way that you will discover new things in the industry and you have to try it. If it works it's great for everybody, if not you go back to the board and start again."
Dutta also feels the new genres of directors are brilliant. "The exciting part of being in the industry today is that we have scripts like say Wake Up Sid, Well Done Abba or an LSD coming in and also the fact that it is not being made by a small time producer. We have people like Karan Johar making films like Wake Up Sid with an unusual pair like Ranbir and Konkona," she says.
Dutta now looks forward to Housefull where she plays the character of a Gujarati
