20th Century Fox, CreateSpace bring MGM films & TV shows to DVD
MUMBAI: Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment (TCFHE) will be using the CreateSpace DVD On-Demand service to offer a selection of never before released classic films and TV shows from the MGM library.
The collaboration provides fans easy access to classic films and TV shows available for sale on Amazon.com. The first titles available includes 1953’s Return to Paradise, starring Gary Cooper; the 1956 film Trapeze, directed by Carol Reed and starring actor Burt Lancaster; and Two for the Seesaw (1962), which stars Robert Mitchum and Shirley MacLaine.
Additional titles to be made available using CreateSpace’s DVD On-Demand service include 1966’s The Group, directed by Sidney Lumet; Director Joan Micklin Silver’s 1977 counterculture film, Between The Lines; 1985’sDreamchild, starring Alice Liddell; 1988’s Far North, written and directed by Sam Shepard; 1991’s film Chains of Gold starring John Travolta; Late for Dinner, a 1991 comedy starring Marcia Gay Harden and Janeane Garofalo; 1993’s Rich in Love with an all-star cast including Albert Finney, Jill Clayburgh, Ethan Hawke and Kyle MacLachlan; 1997’s Welcome to Woop Woop, writer-director Stephan Elliott’s follow-up film to the cult favorite, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and the 1999 comedy A Fish in the Bathtub starring Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.
The TV series being made available initially are 1997’s Poltergeist Season 2 and 2003’s Jeremiah Season 2.
A special introductory video by actor, director, writer, producer and film historian Peter Bogdanovich will be available online at Amazon.com for each of these initial films. “The idea of having these titles made on demand exclusively by CreateSpace allows classic films to be discovered by a new audience that may not otherwise be exposed to them,” notes Bogdanovich.
